Grant A. Brown, 81, of Idleyld Park Oregon passed away on Jan 28, 2014 in Roseburg. He was born on March 14, 1932 in Dunsmuir, California to Adriance and Gladys Brown of Redding California. He graduated from Shasta Jr. College in Redding in 1953, and served in the US Navy Reserves. Grant was Assistant Superintendant for Perminier Corporation in Dillard until it closed. He is best known for his rock business - Snowbird Stone Company. Grant's hand cut stone can still be seen today on the UCC Campus, Roseburg City Hall and many other buildings in the area. He was in charge of the hatch box program for the Umpqua Fishermen's Association for many years being responsible for many innovations in hatch box design, transportation of live Smolts and a safe delivery systems. If you enjoy fishing for salmon or see them going up a stream in Douglas County Grant Brown helped get them there. He designed and built the first inboard jet boat in the Pacific Northwest and his modified sled design is still being used today. His original boat made history when it made it's historic run in 1962 from Tidewater to Roseburg. In 1964 and again in 1972 Grant and his boat were used to rescue numerous people trapped by flood waters. Before "Water Rescue" was an occupation. He risked his life and property to save lives. Grant was an avid boater, fisherman and hunter. He moved his family to Douglas County to do all three. Grant did not think much about organized religion but he accepted Christ and gave God credit for all the magnificent things we see in nature.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Loretta, two daughters Debra (Chuck) Fuller of Roseburg and Cheryl (Bill) Bodine of Earlsboro Oklahoma; two sons.
