Granvel (Cliff) Smalley was born in southern California August 6, 1930 to Rex and Mable Smalley. Cliff was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joan Smalley, son Timmy, his parents Rex and Mable, brother Donald and sister Lorraine.
Cliff joined the Navy in 1948 and served as a Submariner. His home port was in San Diego. After his enlistment was up, he and a friend were driving north, planning on driving across the country to reenlist back in the Navy on the East coast. Story goes, his car broke down in Canyonville. That day, he met his future wife of 63 years, Joan Juhl.
Smalley Trucking was formed in 1976 and has employed 3 generations of his family where his legacy continues on.
Cliff is survived by his sons Mike (Eileen) of Lakeside, OR, Donny (Peter) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Jim (Lynne) of Sutherlin, OR, Chris and David of Santa Clarita, CA; grandchildren Shawn (Christy), Jason (Jessica), Melissa (Josh) and seven great grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers for all the loving care they provided. They are truly treasured.
A Celebration of Life will be held April 2nd at 1 p.m. at Sutherlin Family Church, located at 878 West 6th St in Sutherlin, OR. A reception will follow at 130 Cherry Street in Sutherlin, OR.
