H. Margaret Ruckel

Margaret Ruckel 90, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in a local foster home. She was born May 8, 1920 in Wichita, Kansas to Max and Edna Dort. Margaret graduated from North High School in Wichita in 1938. On October 31, 1939 in Eldorado, Kansas, she married Francis Henry Ruckel who preceded him in death in 1995. Margaret was proud of being a Rosie the Riveter at Boing Aircraft in Wichita during WW II. The Ruckel family lived in Kansas and Colorado prior to moving to Riddle, Oregon in 1944. Margaret was the Riddle Correspondent for the News Review and the Myrtle Creek Mail for many years. She also worked on the Riddle Election Board. Margaret was a member of the Riddle First Baptist Church, Rebecca's and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, crafts, reading, family and working crossword puzzles. Survivors include her daughters Maxine Lee and her husband Wilford of Springfield, Oregon, Kathy Van Hess and her husband Lee of Depoe Bay, Oregon and Karen Cahill and her husband Mike of Salem, Oregon; sister Beverly Wagoner of Riddle, Oregon; brother Robert Dort of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents, son Larry Ruckel and grandson Jaret Ruckel in 1987. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 7, 2010 at 1:30 pm within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Pastor Garrett Van Hess will officiate. Those who wish may pay their respects on Monday, June 7, 2010 from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.
