Harold Guy Cole

HAROLD GUY COLE 87, of Sutherlin, Oregon passed away Friday, September 17, 2010 in his home after a long battle of pancreatic cancer. He was born February 13, 1923 in Oakland, Oregon to parents Guy and Maude (Baird) Cole. Harold was the great grandson of Dr. James Cole who came by oxen wagon on the Oregon Trail in 1851 and was the first white man with a family to settle Cole's Valley. On May 9th 1947 in Reno, Nevada her married Phyllis "Kitty" Reynolds. Harold worked as a rancher from age 8 until he retirement. He also logged from 1947 until 1984. Harold was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed donating to Seven Feathers Casino. Harold was a member of the NRA, American Legion and served in WW II in the CBI in India, Burma and China. After retirement he and Kitty went to Arizona for 9 consecutive years, enjoying fishing, golfing and numerous friends. Survivors include his wife of 63 years Kitty Cole; son Richard McCandless Jr. and his wife Joanne of Selma, California; nieces Vickie (Cole) Clark and her husband Orville of Riddle, Oregon and Debra (Cole) Rogers and her husband Duke of Oakland, Oregon; sisters Opal (Stearns) Graham of Sutherlin, Oregon, and Barbara Gilkison of Cottage Grove, Oregon; brother Ralston (Red) Cole of Sutherlin, Oregon. Harold was preceded in death by his brothers Ray, Joe and Clark; son Jerry Cole and nephew Randy Cole. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Calapooyia Clubhouse with a potluck to follow. Private burial will be held within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Harold's memory to Amedisys Hospice of Roseburg, 2510 NW Edenbower Ste 112, Roseburg, Oregon 97471.
