Helen Cagle (Keyser) Cagle

Helen Margaret (Keyser-Foos) Cagle, age 92 1/2, of Roseburg, Oregon, peacefully passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at her daughter Cynde's home in Grants Pass. Cynde and her great-great-grandson Kayson were by her side. Helen was born January 24, 1923, in Healing Springs, Virginia, to Herbert Floyd Keyser and Mamie Emma Johnson-Keyser. She was one of four children, joining her brother, Hugh Keyser, and two sisters Marie Estelle Keyser-Jordan, Elsie Keyser-Robinett.

Helen married William Aubrey Foos and had two children, Helen Margaret Foos Tice and Barbara Ann Foos Vintus. Helen later married Alwin B. Cagle in 1962, and raised their grandchild Cynthia Louise Vintus Canepa. They moved to Roseburg from Los Angeles in 1974.

Helen attended John Marshall High School, graduating in 1940. She was very active during her high school years, participating in many organizations and filling numerous rolls. She was Library Assistant for Student Association and Secretary for the Sans Souci Club in 1938, Recording Secretary for the National Honor Society in 1939-1940, Girls' Glee Club, French and Junior Short Story editors for The Record, Class of Drama, Valentine Museum Auxiliary, John Marshal Christian Youth Organization, "Ruddigore" in 1939, French Tournament in 1937, Senior French Society, the Alumni Editor for The Monocle, and the Quill and Scroll Society. Later, Helen attended Umpqua Community College and graduated in 1982 with an Associate in Science in Nursing.

Helen worked as a Registered Employment Counselor and Certified Employment Consultant in Oregon County, California. She retired as a registered nurse at the VA Hospital in Roseburg, before opening up the first Class 3 Adult Foster Home in 1990, where she worked as an administrator.

Helen belongs to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and served as Vice Regent in 2002 and Secretary in 2003. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, volunteering and helping people. She was a devoted Protestant.

Survivors include her grandchildren Cynthia Canepa, Susan Saltzman and Michael Tice; great-grandchildren Tristan Canepa, Damien, Peter, Michael, Samantha, and Shannon Saltzman, Vincent and Alixandra Tice; and great-great-grandchildren Kayson Canepa, Charity, Jaden, and Kade Saltzman, Osheas, Austin, and Jackson Saltzman.

Helen's placement in the Roseburg National Cemetery will be on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at 3:30 p.m., with "Coffee with Helen" afterwards in the Service Location at the National Cemetery on Harvard in Roseburg. Helen would ask that loved ones and friends have a red rose bush planted in her memory; her favorite was three red roses, which symbolized "my love, your love, our love."
