H. Skip Rasmussen 78, of Roseburg passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at home after a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. "Skip" as most people knew him was born in Metuchen, New Jersey to parents Marin Skipper and Hans Rasmussen both of whom were arrivals from Denmark. Skip served for four years in the US Navy during the Korean War. After the war he attended the University of Iowa and received his Masters Degree as a MSW. He was a Psychiatric Social worker for the VA for 30 years until his retirement. After retiring he enjoyed playing golf, fishing and working in his yard. Skip touched many lives and was loved and cared for by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Survivors include wife Shirley Sehorn Rasmussen; children Hans Rasmussen, Kari Rasmussen, Wendy Rasmussen Cole and her husband Bryan; step-children Lisa Thompson Roberts and her husband Bryan and Will Thompson; grandsons Soren and Ian Rasmussen; step-grandchildren Nick, Eric and Alex Roberts; step-great grandson Zachary Roberts; sisters Marie Reeder and her husband Bud, Erma Boucher, Else Sorenson; brother Hans Rasmussen. Many thanks go to special daughter-in-law "Andie". Skip was preceded in death by a brother Arne Rasmussen. There has been a family service and Skip's wishes, there will be no memorial service. Private cremation rites have been held.
