HOWARD ROSS HENDERLONG 87 1/2, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Monday, May 1, 2017. He was born to Fred and Ruby (Radtsky) Henderlong on October 30, 1929 in Santa Rosa, California. Howard grew up in Dry Creek Valley out of Healdsburg, California. He graduated from Healdsburg High School in 1947. Howard spent 11 1/2 years in C Company, 579th Combat Engineer's 49th Division California National Guard. He was honorably discharged with the rank of E5 Specialist. Howard raised prunes, wine grapes, sheep and also sheared sheep professionally for a few years. He was a member of Sun Sweet Growers, California Wine Growers, California Wool Marketing, California Farm Bureau, Young People and Director of Sonoma County Farm Bureau. He married Barbara Hartzell Corbin in 1965 who preceded him in death in 2002. Howard and Barbara move to Oregon in 1968 to a sheep and cattle ranch on Sunshine Road. He was a member of Oregon Sheep Growers, Oregon Cattleman, Douglas County Livestock Association, and Dixonville Scales Inc.. Howard started working on the Lamb Show BBQ in 1970. He became head chef in 1979 and served until present, was Chairman of Wool Pool Committee and Secretary-Treasurer of Dixonville Scales Inc. Howard became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in 1969. He served on most committees and was presently serving on the Financial Committee. Survivors include two step-children and two nieces David and Meena Corbin and family; Katherine Corbin of Fairfield, Iowa; Lee and Doug Nalle and family, MaryAnne and Steve Shulte and family. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12, 2017 at 4:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School. Private interment will be within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Those who wish may pay their respects on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.
