ISABELLE "IZZY" ZIEGLER, age 87, passed away November 7, 2015. She was born May 25, 1928 to Peter and Veronika (Jochim) Ziegler in Balmas, Romania. In 1951, Izzy came to America from Bremerhaven, Germany with her brother, Nickodemus Ziegler. They lived in Minot, North Dakota for ten years. Izzy worked as a surgical assistant and a pediatric aide at St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot for over ten years. In 1961, she moved with her brother and sister-in-law, Charlotte "Lottie" Ziegler, to Roseburg. She began working as a Nurse's Aide at Mercy Hospital in 1966 and was there for over twenty years. Izzy received recognition from St. Joseph's Hospital as well as many service awards from Mercy Medical Center. Izzy enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. She will always be especially remembered for her special handmade slippers. Izzy was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Veronika Ziegler; her brother, Nickodemus and her sister-in-law Charlotte Ziegler. She is survived by her sister, Marianne Ltge of Bad Nenndorf, Germany; brother, Kasper Ziegler of Billings, Montana; nieces Barbara Ziegler, Veronica (Jens) Ziegler-Benthien and Marlies Maze; nephew Stephen (Maria Paz) Ziegler; and numerous family members and friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to Umpqua Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation for their unconditional love and care. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 12:10 p.m.
