James Hurd

August 30, 1924 — May 24, 2023

James "Jim" Hurd shed his earthly mantle on May 24, 2023 for his next journey joining his parents Elmer and Catherine; close friends and telephone company buddies. Jim was born in Colinga, California but grew up in Modesto, California attending high school and obtaining an AA degree at the J.C. He enlisted in the Navy upon graduation from high school in 1942, sent to Texas A& M and Navy Radio Material School becoming proficient in RADAR, an emerging Technology. This led to assignment to the Submarine Base at Pearl Harbor retrofitting the subs to RADAR. After discharge he was employed by Pacific Bell as an Engineer for 35 years. Not being content with retirement he contracted with various telecommunication companies for another 10 years. He enjoyed water and snow skiing, trap shooting, golf, bowling and Toastmasters. Jim leaves a huge hole in the life of his spouse Donna of almost 52 years; stepdaughters Linda (Lou) Brunanchon and Diane (Mark) Villiquette; brother Ronald (Ida) Hurd; step-grandsons Ryan and Aaryn Villiquette; and niece Jane (Randy) Duart. Military Honors will be held on June 13, 2023 at 2:00 pm within the grounds of Roseburg National Cemetery. For those who wish, contributions may be made to your favorite charity or Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center. The family would like to give special thanks to Amedysis Hospice for their wonderful support during this difficult time.
