JAMES FRANKLIN MARR was born on October 30, 1919 in Elgin, Oregon. His family moved to Glide, Oregon and had a 200 plus acre ranch. He graduated from Glide High School. Jim married Virginia Ruth Cyrus on March 24, 1946. He met Virginia in the draft office. Jim Marr served in the Army National Guard 162nd Infantry 41st Division. He was deployed during WW II to the South Pacific. Upon his return to the states, he worked at Si Dillard's Auto Shop for 14 years. He went on to won his own company, Marr's Auto Service until he retired. Jim was an active member of the Roseburg First Christian Church. He was an ordained minister. Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to drive out dirt roads in the mountains and set up camp. Jim loved to hunt and fish. He was a Scout Master for Explorer Scouts. Jim loved to tell stories of his time in the military. He was a kind, loving and Godly man. Jim would talk to anyone who would listen. He was a member of the American Legion Baseball team when he was younger. Jim would attend every game that he was able to go to and was honored in the alumni celebrations for many years with the Doc Stewarts baseball team. Jim died on November 12, 2014 at 4:00 am in Riverbend Hospital in Springfield, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia and brother Harold Marr. Survivors include his brother Raymond Marr; daughter Dorothea Decker and her husband George; son John Marr and his wife Yvonne; adopted daughter Nancy Hopkins, adopted son Russell Hopkins; grandchildren Tony Marr, TJ Marr, Derek Decker, Shelley McKenzie, John Hopkins, Cheryl Buckley, Richard Hopkins and their spouses; 13 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Roseburg First Christian Church with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of cards and flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Jim Marr's name to the Doctor Stewarts American Legion Baseball or to the Roseburg First Christian Church. Private interment was held within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
