JAMES ELISHA LANEY 93 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, February 26, 2010. Jim was born October 18, 1916 in Remer, Minnesota to William and Lucy (Lewis) Laney. His family moved to Riddle, Oregon where Jim graduated from Riddle High School in 1935. He married Doris Walker in 1943. Jim served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army motor pool in the Philippines. He worked for many years in the timber industry and retired from driving chip trucks for Roseburg Lumber in 1979. Jim enjoyed his life and his favorite pastime was having "coffee and conversation" with family and friends. He was a member of the Hucrest Community Church and a life member of the FVW, American Legion Post 16 and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Union. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, all sports, was a longtime fan and supporter of Doc Stewarts American Legion baseball team, and watching old movies. Survivors include his wife of 66 years , Doris Laney of Roseburg, Oregon; daughter Gayle (RoyDon) Chambers of Shelton, Washington; son James William Laney of Roseburg, Oregon; James' ex-wife and friend Brenda Laney also of Roseburg, Oregon; granddaughter Amy (Tim) Dunn; grandsons Joey (Christy) Jenkins, and Nick Jenkins; two great grandchildren; sisters-in-laws Carol Walker, Nellie (Erwin) Best and Lillian (John) Fochs and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents William and Lucy Laney and brother-in-law William Walker. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Hucrest Community Church 2075 NW Witherspoon. Pastors Jon Nutter and Steve Kufeldt will officiate. A reception will follow at the church. Private interment will be held within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made in Jim's memory to the Doc Stewart's American Legion Baseball team, P.O. Box 1249, Roseburg, OR 97470 or to the Hucrest Community Church and these may be left at the service.
