Services were held on February 8th, 2018 for James Keith Richards with full military honors for his eighteen (18) years of faithful service in the Navy during the Vietnam era. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Justine A. Richards and his five children; (in order) Sheri J. Richards, James M. Richards, Daniel A. Richards, Amy J. Richards-O’Brian, and Brandy L. Richards.
James was born in Lynwood, CA to Barbara K. Bowman and Paul E. Richards in 1957 and was the third son of four boys; Paul, Luis, James, and Donald. James joined the United States Navy in September of 1976 and spent his career traveling the world. His love for the sea was second only to the love he had for his wife and children. James left a legacy that continues with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He had a personality that was larger than life and a humor to match. He demonstrated immense strength in life and had a sarcastic humor that made most wonder what was going to come out next. James lived a life on his terms and passed on his own terms as well. Although his life was cut too short, he lived a good life and had a good death. Fair winds and following seas.
“When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.”
