Jay Llewellyn Palmer, age 86, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 10, 2016 with his family by his side. Jay was born in Olalla, Oregon to Elsie and Alfred Palmer and lived the majority of his life in Douglas County. After completing High School, Jay served his country in the USAF for four years. After completing his service, he returned to Douglas County to work in the timber industry. The majority of his career was spent as a log scaler from the Southern Oregon Log Scaling and Grading Bureau from where he retired in 1991. Jay spent 54 years of marriage to his life long love, Ruthe Palmer, where they made their home in Roseburg. After Ruthe's passing, Jay remarried in 2009 to Lou Collins-Palmer.
Jay was an avid golfer and treasured his time with the golfing community, especially his cherished friends at Stewart Park Golf Course where he played weekly until his latest health issues. He wants to remind his friends to watch out for that subtle break.
Jay is survived by his son David Palmer and Susan; grandson Jace Palmer; nieces Eileen Cotnam and Janet Palmer; and wife, Lou Collins-Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Elsie Palmer and his siblings.
A Celebration of Life memorial reception will be held at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses January 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please give a donation to your favorite charity in Jay's name.
