JERRY LYNN COFFEY 63, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at his home. He was born July 17, 1949 in Lakeview, Oregon to Loleta B. (Smith) and Lewis Melvin Coffey. Jerry attended schools in Oregon and California. He was in the class of 68' at Del Norte High in Crescent City, California. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army in February of 1968. He did his basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington and special training in Arizona before being sent to Vietnam. His tour in Vietnam had a devastating effect on the rest of his life. He was honorably discharged in February of 1974. After returning from Vietnam he married Susan Modrell on June 6, 1970. Their daughter Jillian Lynn Coffey was born April 12, 1973 and their son Jack Christopher Coffey arrived on January 17, 1979. Jerry worked as a landscaper, plumber and heavy equipment operator. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and target shooting, he was an expert marksman. Survivors include Susan; Jill and Jack Coffey along with grandchildren Logan Otremba, Lacey McMahon, Samantha Coffey and Dylan Coffey; aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends and relatives. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Loleta and Lewis. Upon Jerry's request, he will be cremated. Plans are being made for services to be held in Roseburg, Oregon and Crescent City, California. A memorial service with military honors will be held Friday, August 24, 2012 at 1:00 pm within the grounds of Roseburg National Cemetery.
