Jerry Clinton Drury passed away on February 20, 2015 in Roseburg, Oregon at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. Jerry was born November 11, 1944 in McPherson, Kansas to Henry B. Drury and Deloris (Minns) Drury. Jerry grew up believing the town held a parade in his honor on his birthday. After his family moved west, Jerry attended Canyonville High School before entering the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He served from February 1962 to March 1966 plus two additional years in the Navy Reserves. The last ship Jerry served on was the USS Brinkley Bass as a Boatswain's Mate.
Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley. They had two daughters Celeste Johnson and Karen Moore. With his second wife Norma (Melton), who also preceded him in death, they had a son, Jerry Jr.
In 2001, Jerry ran into an old friend, Arlene. They picked up their friendship and decided to blend their families. Jerry was a driver for Greyhound Bus and was willing to drive where ever Arlene wanted to go. Prior to driving for Greyhound, Jerry was a Firefighter for Douglas County Fire District No. 2 which is where he met Arlene. Once both of them retired they could go whenever they wanted for as long as they wanted. They made many memories taking cross country trips and seeing the sights. Jerry enjoyed sharing these trips with family and took granddaughter Kylee on their last cross country trip. Jerry really enjoyed driving and had a hard time riding with anyone. On their last trip he broke his leg in Nebraska and had to ride in the back of the RV all the way to Oregon with Arlene and Kylee at the helm. Arlene and Jerry spent many hours travelling to/from VA Hospitals and met many caring people like Paula Kramer, Cindy Bright and Naomi Lambert; he also had a special relationship with Dr. Kumar and Staff.
Jerry is survived by his wife Arlene, daughters Celeste, Karen, Sandy, Deanna and Robin (Shaun), sons Jerry Jr. (Nikki), Larry, Eddie, Danny, grandchildren Mike (Laura), Caprice, Cierra, Steven, Kassondra, Taylor, Jordan, Kylee, John (Kelly), Justine, Joleen, Cody, Teneya, Shannon, Tessa, Amanda, Tyler, great-grandchildren Ashley, Brandon, Nickolas, Alexander, Jadien, Jacob, Delilah, Steven Jr., Kailyn, Katiiana, and great-great-grandson Thomas. He is also survived by his sister Cindy, cousins Jeff (Jenni), Linda and Paula (Earl) and lifetime friend Vernon Henry (Jennifer) of Kansas. Preceding him in death were his parents, aunts and uncles.
Military graveside honors will be held at the new Roseburg National Cemetery Friday, February 27, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.
