Jesse Franklin Heagy Sr, age 88, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at his home in Winston, Oregon.
Jesse was born January 25, 1928 to Glenn and Edith Heagy in Yakima, Washington. He served in the Army and was a Med Tech in World War II. In 1985, Jesse retired as a cook at the VA Hospital after 31 years of service.
Jesse was a founding member of the Winston Seventh Day Adventist Church and helped construct the building. He was very dedicated to his church where he served as a Deacon and Chorister for many years. Jesse also served as a member of the American Legion Post 16. He enjoyed working on autos, traveling and being a handyman. He was a rock hound and loved rocks of any kind.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn & Edith Heagy; his twin sister, Velva Newport; and his brother Clifford Heagy. Jesse is survived by his wife of 67 ½ years Doris E. Heagy; his daughters, Judy E. Miller of Winston, Cynthia and Tim Maley of Winston, and Gayle and Bryan Thompson of Roseburg; his son Jesse "Frank" and Cheryl Heagy of Coos Bay; his sisters in law, Phyllis White of Eugene, Dorothy Havel of Roseburg, Alice Heagy of Walla Walla, WA, Helen and Gary Benson of Vancouver, WA; his brothers in law, Eugene and Toni White of Prescott Valley, AZ and Robert and Dottie White of Bend; grandchildren, Tia and Jason Davis, Jennifer Heagy, Allen and Kirsten Tankersley, Bryce Miller, Ryan Tankersley and Cindy Marie, Marion and Elva Miller, Murray and Marie Miller, Joshua Heagy and Wendy, and Johnathan Thompson; great grandchildren, Malachi, Mai and Moses Tankersley, Caleb and Candace Miller, Mitchell, Micah, Makayla and Michael Miller; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. at Roseburg Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow at Winston Seventh Day Adventist Church at 1730 Winston Section Road in Winston.
