JOE D. STEWART 87, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Friday, November 15, 2013. He was born January 6, 1926 in Wanette, Oklahoma to Hubert A. and Osie Bell Stewart. Joe graduated from high school in 1943 and was educated in Engineering at Oklahoma State University. During WW II, Joe was a B-17 radio operator and during the Korean War he was Company Commander of the 120th Combat Engineers. After the Korean War, he worked as Chief Engineer at Altus AFB Oklahoma and then as Deputy Base Civil Engineer at Little Rock AFB, Arkansas. In 1961 he transferred to Scott AFB as the Director of Civil Engineering for the Air Force Communications Service until he retired in 1974.After retiring he loved hunting, fishing, watching football and basketball, missionary work in Nevada and volunteer work (he was the Volunteer Fire Chief in Colorado) and attended Southern Baptist Churches throughout his life. He loved to hunt pheasants in Nebraska with his best friend George. Joe was a life member of the NRA and the VFW. Survivors include his wife of 25 years Janet Rae Stewart; daughter Janet Fisk; step-son Michael John and his wife Valery; brother William "Bill" Stewart and his wife Barbara; grandchildren Paula Ward, Jeramy and Sara White, Sabrina John, Michael and Michelle Artinian; many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his first wife Irlene in 1974; sister Virginia; brothers John, Hubert, Julius and Cecil; children Gary, Donna and Debbie. Private family services will be held at a later date. Private cremation rites have been held.
