Mr. John Kenneth Linder, "Ace", age 78, passed away at his Sutherlin home on Monday April 21, 2014. He was born in March of 1936 in Pomona, California to Henry and Anna Mae Linder. John was a previous resident of Palm Springs and Big Bear Lake, California. He graduated from Pomona High School in 1954. He served in the Air Force and was in combat in the Korean Conflict. John was a retired Chief serving 37 years in Fire Service.
He was an active member and enjoyed being a part of the Big Bear Lake Elks for 42 years, the Umpqua Men's Golf Club for ten years and the Roseburg Rod and Gun Club. John received letters of honorary recognition from California Governors, Grey Davis, and Pete Wilson for his exemplary service in the fire industry. He was an avid University of Southern California Trojan fan, football and golf enthusiast. John was a member of the Pomona, California 1st Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kay, his daughters Margo Sweet Leon (Tony) of Highland, CA, and Michele Smith of Apple Valley, CA, step daughter Jayme Cook (Roland) of Palm Desert, CA, step son Jim Ferguson (Jeanine) of Burney, CA, sister Alice Hutson (Don) of Wrightwood, CA, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son; Michael Linder and by four older sisters.
Funeral Services will be on May 2, 2014 at 10 AM at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses with interment to follow at Roseburg National Cemetery with Military Honors. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Linder residence immediately following the committal service.
