John (Jack) Elmer McNeice was born on July 29, 1925. John was the middle child of Horashel and Lois McNeice, and grew up on a farm in Kansas. Jack enlisted in the Marines in November 1943 and served proudly 31/2 years in the South Pacific. After his discharge he met and married Loraine. They farmed until 1954. When they moved to Portland, Oregon so Jack could attend Diesel Mechanic School. Jack loved equipment and was a heavy duty mechanic until he retired in 1986. He got his pilots license in 1977 and spent many years flying for pleasure. After retirement, he and Loraine would spend weekends at the local lakes with their camp trailer & boat. One real joy in his life was his volunteering activity at the VA Hospital in Roseburg. He felt it was a real privilege.
Jack was preceded in death by both his parents, his brother's William & Robert & granddaughter Annie. He is survived by his wife Loraine, daughter Janet Sue, sons Rodney, wife Judith & Edward, wife Paula as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces.
Jack was a good husband, dad and friend and will be greatly missed.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday April 6, 2013 at Melrose Community Church at 11 am. and a Graveside service Monday at 11:00 am at Roseburg National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to the DAV or the donor's choice.
