John Eugene Mellor (born March 6, 1928) passed away on April 11, 2018 at the age of 90. He had lived in Winston, Oregon in a home he had built for him and his wife for 46 years. He married Shirley Ann Hoekstra in June of 1951 and they lived in Myrtle Creek and Canyonville before residing in Winston. His parents were John and Mary Mellor who resided in Puyallup, Washington. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1946 and started his career of driving trucks. He drove truck for Merrill Devore from the age of 18 - 23, and also long-haul produce truck during that time also. He then drove log truck independently for about 8 years. He then started FJM Trucking Company with his Uncle Frank Felkel in 1959 and grew that business to 30 logging trucks and over 40 employees. He sold that business and retired in 1993. He was the President of Oregon Log Trucker's Association, President of the Vogue Motor Home Association, Sunday School Superintendent at Roseburg Assembly of God, was a member of the Oregon Pilots Association. He leaves behind his 4 married children: Rick and Su Mellor, Ken and Rulena Mellor, Kathy and Kevin Kinney, Patty and Tom Bentley. And 10 grandchildren: Kevin and Elizabeth Mellor, Jason and Summer Mellor, Dusty and Felicia Mellor, Lane Mellor, Scott and Jen Kinney, Travis and Karlea Kinney, Janelle Mellor, Tyler and Laura Bentley, Gillian Bentley and Vanessa Bentley. Also 12 great grand children: Bryce Mellor, Katie, Josie and Charlotte Mellor, Evelyn Mellor, Guinevere, Elliette, Cruz and Pearl Kinney, Rylea, Gracyn and Arcea Kinney.
A celebration of life service will be held at Redeemers Fellowship on Sunday, April 15th, 2018 at 1:30 pm. Pastor Steve Walker will be
presiding. A viewing with family will take place at Chapel of the Roses, Sunday, April 15th, 2018 from 11- 12:00 pm. A private internment will take place at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. The family would like to express their thanks to Waterford Grand in Eugene, Oregon and Sacred Heart Hospice in Eugene, Oregon.
