LCDR Joseph W. Brumbach Ret.
Age 91, passed away at his home on Monday, February 17, 2014. Joe was born February 25, 1922 to Joseph and Alda "Watson" Brumbach. He graduated from Roseburg High School in 1938 and attended The University of Washington for three years in the 1950's. Joe served two years in the National Guard and 20 years in the Navy. He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor, and was the last one here in Douglas County. He worked as a rancher and a school bus driver. Joe was a member of the Southern Oregon Warbirds, Roseburg Sam's VFW, the American Legion, and the Republican Party. He liked to travel in his motor home, go on sea cruises and winter in Yuma, Arizona. Joe Held office in the Glide School Board and was the National Vice President of the Association of Conservation Districts. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Joe is survived by his wife of 15 ½ years, Brenda; son, Joe (Beverly) Brumbach Jr. of Roseburg; daughter, Alda (Harold) Saunders of Nanaimo, Canada; stepson, Michael Britt; stepdaughter, Karena Britt; grandchildren, Tonya Bell, Brett Vinson, Shawn Lybarger, Shelly Nelson and Tony Brumbach, and several great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Lee; and his brother, Donald Brumbach. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday February 25, at 12:10 p.m.followed by graveside services with Military Honors at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. A memorial reception will be held after at the VFW Hall on Walnut St. A special thanks to Mercy Hospice.
