Justin Burge
Age 31, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015. Justin was born on FE Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to James Burge, Jr. and Pamela Williams. Justin was raised in Roseburg, Oregon, and graduated from Roseburg High School. Justin entered the US Navy in 2004, and was initially assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln as an Internal Communications Technician. During his time on the USS Abraham Lincoln, he completed two deployments including one providing humanitarian aid during the 2004 Indian Ocean/Sumatra Tsunami. Justin pursued and ultimately realized his dream of becoming a Naval Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Technician. Justin served a combat tour in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2011 to 2012, as an EOD Technician. He earned the rank of E-6 and obtained his Senior Explosive Ordnance Disposal badge. During his tenure in the Navy, Justin was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, NATO Medal, Good Conduct Medal x3 and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Justin had an infectious smile that matched the size of his heart and zest for adventure and life. It was often said that his smile could light up the darkest of rooms. He was a kind, loving and generous person who wanted everyone to be happy. Justin had a love of baseball and a passion for Duck football.
Justin was preceded in death by grandfathers James Burge, Sr. and John Williams; and his uncle Gary Burge. He is survived by his mother Pamela Williams; father James Burge, Jr.; step-mother Frances Burge; brother Joel Burge; and grandparents Shirley Burge, Maile Williams and Herbert and Carmen Roberts. Justin is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins, from the Williams family and families of Diana and John Pitcher, Dennis Burge, Gary Roberts and Jimmy Roberts; as well as the many, many loving friends whose lives he touched along his adventurous path of life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Next Step Service Dogs at 921 S. Andreasen Drive, Escondido, CA 92029, which is an organization that provides trained service canines to veterans suffering from PTSD. Justin volunteered for this organization for the past six months and had become very passionate about the service this organization provides to veterans.
Justin's service, with full military honors, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Roseburg National Cemetery Annex located at 913 NW Garden Valley Blvd.
