Lanty Edward Jarvis, Sr, 74, of Winston, Oregon, passed away at his home, with his family at his side, on January 8, 2016.
Lanty was born in Warsaw, Ohio, November 5, 1941 to Paul and Sylvia (Fowler) Jarvis. Lanty was the third of five children. He graduated from Union High School in Union, Ohio in 1959. He enlisted in the US Navy directly out of high school. Lanty served on the USS Ranger as a Radioman Third Class and spent 18 months on Guam. He was honorably discharged from service in October of 1962 and returned to his family in Ohio, where he met Myra "Jean" Fouts.
Lanty and Jean were married on September 21, 1963 in Winston, Oregon. Son Lanty Jr was born on September 1, 1964. Daughter Tracy came along September 27, 1965. Son Michael was born four years later on October 5, 1969. On June 7, 1976, daughter Heather was born.
Lanty worked various jobs throughout his life, including office manager, realtor, and dump truck driver. He spent many years at Roseburg Paving/Beaver State Sand & Gravel. In 1988, Lanty and Jean opened Jarvis Custom Frame Shop in downtown Roseburg, which they operated until Lanty's illness. Lanty loved owning and operating Jarvis Custom Frame. He enjoyed working with the customers - going above and beyond what was asked of him, to ensure that each order was completed to perfection.
Lanty was very active in the BPOE: Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. In 1996, he served as Exalted Ruler for Roseburg Elks Lodge #326. In 2014, he also served the Elks Grand Lodge as District Deputy of the Southwest District. He was proud of his service to the Elks and of the projects that helped to support his community. Lanty also served on the Roseburg City Council for four years.
Lanty is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 52 years, his son Lanty Jr (Joanna), daughter Tracy Pinder (Robert), and son Michael (Chrissy), six grandchildren: RJ Pinder (Kayla), Aubrey Jarvis, Matthew Jarvis, Morgan Jarvis, Susan Jarvis and Jakob Jarvis; one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Pinder, brothers: Hedge (Nancy), Paul (Jane) and Ernie (Peggy); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Sylvia Jarvis, sister, Inez Schlief, and daughter, Heather Jarvis.
Funeral arrangements are with Chapel of the Roses, Roseburg, Oregon. A memorial service is to be held Friday, January 15, 2016, at 11:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life at Roseburg Elks Lodge #326.
