Larry Bill Quiring passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2018 in Salem, Oregon with family at his side. Larry was born in Wichita, Kansas on July 5,1940. A few months later Larry was adopted by Elouise Quiring from Dixon, Missouri. Larry had one adopted sister Shirley, who preceded him in death. Larry grew up in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, Dixon township to be exact, and attended local area schools in Dixon as well as a couple of years in military school before returning to attend Dixon High School.
Larry was a very hard worker. He always had at least two jobs even as a youth. Larry worked after school at the local IGA grocery store stocking shelves at night and worked in a Soda Fountain Shop right after school as a Soda Jerk. At age 17 Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Upon completion of his enlistment he received an Honorable Discharge at the rank of corporal (E-4).
While stationed in California Larry met and married Joan Betty Moore. After completing his active service they moved their family to Southern Oregon, where Larry served as a Curry County Sheriff's Deputy and later transferred to the Coquille Police Department as a Patrol Officer.
In the 1960's Larry, Joan and family moved to Salem, Oregon where Larry was a Deputy for the Marion County Sheriff's Department. While serving Marion County, he took classes at Chemeketa Community College, earning an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement. Ever a hard worker, Larry continued to work in Law Enforcement and created his own side business as he was also an excellent welder, metal fabricator and all round “fix-it” man. Larry's Portable Repair, Inc. was born. Larry was skilled at repairing almost anything, especially those items that, "Could not be fixed”. Larry eventually retired from law enforcement as the Chief of Police for Mt. Angel and closed a long career of 20+ years in Law Enforcement to pursue working LPR, Inc. full time.
Larry always had a fascination with electronics and radio communications. Before too long Radio Communications were included in LPR, Inc., both commercial and amateur. Larry served on the board of the Salem Repeater Association and was active in amateur radio activities with his Call Sign KC7NOS. Larry was known for installing several repeaters and long range antenna in the surrounding areas that benefit local radio stations, public and private radio communications as well as some emergency communications.
Larry enjoyed, “Ham Radio", boating, “Going to the show”, chocolate cake with vanilla icing, vanilla ice cream, a good end cut of prime rib and a clean organized shop with everything in its place.
In 1986 Larry added a vice-president and secretary to his corporation when he married Beverly Clayton. In addition to working together, he joined her in travels to Europe, Panama, Mexico and several trips to Missouri and Texas.
Larry will be remembered for his love of family, devotion to his country, belief in his Christian faith, pride in his Marine Corps service, drive to work hard at all things and his superior organizational skills.
Larry is survived by his wife Beverly, his children Dayna, Terry, William and Tacey; and by grandchildren Elizabeth, Perrin, Nathan, Matthew and Traven. Larry also has several nieces and nephews in Oregon and Missouri.
A funeral service is planned for Saturday Oct. 20 in Roseburg at Chapel of the Roses at 11am with a grave side service to follow. A celebration of life is planned for Saturday October 27 at People's Church in Salem. Time to be announced.
