Age 82, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013.
Larry was born in Spokane, Washington to Clayton and Velma (Foster) Mack on October 17, 1931.
Larry is survived by his wife of 33 years, Betty of Roseburg, Oregon; daughter Rebecca Dugan (Darrell) of Fallon, Nevada; daughter Rozalind Rodgers (Dale) of West Richland, Washington; Julia Caldwell (Rob) of Idaho; Mari Mack (Gary) of Arvada, Colorado; stepdaughter Lisa Millet (Kelly) of Portland; stepson John Millet (Amy) of Citrus Heights, California; stepdaughter Laure Mazuet (Franck) of Paris France. He is also survived by his brother John (Marianne) Mack of Bainbridge Island, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his son Loren Mack of Salem.
Larry served in the US Marine Corps from January 1951 to December 1953, serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Larry graduated from Whitman College with a Bachelor degree in 1957. He attended graduate school at University of Oregon receiving an M.S. degree in Vocational Counseling. He had counseling positions at Devereux School in Pennsylvania and at the U. of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. He served as Parole Officer for the state juvenile training school and later was Umatilla County juvenile court director. He was Director of Twin Falls, Idaho Community Action and moved on to join an organization that trained CAP directors from across the US in Washington, DC. He returned to Oregon to work for State Children's Service Division, as community organizer, developing community treatment centers across the state. He ended his career of state service as Branch Manger of the Children's Service Division in Roseburg. He enjoyed skiing and river rafting. He loved classical music, cats, and reading and the house that he and Betty shared. He traveled to Switzerland, New Zealand, Chile, Nepal, India and France. He and Betty traveled to Russia and the countries of Eastern Europe and later to the southeastern Mediterranean. Interment will be at Roseburg National Cemetery at some time in the New Year. At that same time a memorial service will be held. Donations may be made to Douglas County Library Foundation.
