Laurence (Larry) Marion Moore, age 89, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away Wednesday at his home. He was born to Marion and Dorris Green Moore in Roseburg December 27, 1927.
Larry attended Roseburg High School. He spent his teen years working for the Oregon Forest Service. After graduating in 1947, he spent five years as a lineman for PT&T and two years with Gerretsen Lumber Company.
He married his High School sweetheart, Artice Taylor, on September 10, 1948. They celebrated 69 years together this past September.
After becoming representatives for Tupperware in 1954, Larry and Artice were offered a franchise opportunity in the mid-west. They moved to Iowa in 1955 to begin the biggest adventure of their lives by opening a Tupperware Distributorship in Davenport. After 35 years in business they retired to Florida for 15 years. During this time they spent 12 years representing Winnebago as Caravan Leaders and travelled numerous times throughout the lower 48, Alaska, and Canada. The call of Oregon eventually brought them home.
Larry was active with the First United Methodist Church of Roseburg. His love for nature blossomed from being raised in a family nursery business to being instrumental in the development of the Community Westside Garden.
He was active in the Sutherlin Lions Club. He enjoyed interacting with the public and spreading the good news and works of the Lions Club at the local Blackberry, Halloween, and Christmas festivals.
The stories that he shared with many friends and family are timeless and treasured by all that had the privilege of experiencing his love of life.
Larry was a huge Iowa Hawkeyes and Oregon Ducks fan. He loved everything outdoors; from enjoying a beautiful sunset, to fishing and a warm campfire on the beach.
Survivors include his wife, Artice Taylor Moore; children, Diana of Sutherlin, OR, Dennis of Kirkland, WA, Dale of Woodinville, WA, and Donna of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Chad (fiance Di Liu) of Alexandria, VA, Emily Cason of Sutherlin, OR, and Becky (Jon) Weaver of Glenwood, MN; and five great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 14th, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Roseburg, 1771 West Harvard Avenue. All who treasured his friendship and love are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, any gifts may be made to the Sutherlin Lions Scholarship Fund or the First United Methodist Church of Roseburg.
Interment will be at Fair Oaks Cemetery.
