Passed away peacefully in his home in Sutherlin, Oregon, on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the age of 45, of complications from multiple sclerosis (MS).
Known by "Mike", he was born on November 14, 1969, in Fortuna, California, to Dr. Larry and Marilyn Sharp. Growing up, he moved all over the US with his three siblings, due to his father being in the military. He was always the top of his class, earning a spot on the honor roll and graduating from Roseburg High School in 1988. At age 19, he learned Spanish and served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Seville, Spain. Once returned, he married his "Goddess" wife, Juliann Sharp, and had four children.
Mike was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and continued to be true to his faith. He also had several hobbies. He loved riding his bike insane distances, including to the top of the Callahans in Roseburg, OR. He also had a love for music and sang all the time, as well as watching his favorite TV show, Star Trek. He had a great sense of humor and could always make people laugh, and enjoyed tinkering with computers. His love for the language of Spanish continued even after his mission, as he continued to speak it often and fluently, helping his children to learn it as well.
Although Mike was diagnosed with MS in 1992, and eventually became bedridden in 2009, he always remained positive and never complained. His constant displays of kindness, strength, persistence, perseverance, and strong faith in his church show that he always been, and continue to be, a hero and a perfect example to follow.
Mike left behind a wife, Juliann; and his four children, Breanna, Janessa, Mikey and Hannah; as well as his parents, Dr. Larry and Marilyn Sharp; and his siblings James, Jon, Sarah and their children.
Mike's family would personally like to thank his loving caregiver and close friend, Bill, his close friends and nurses, Michelle and Denise, as well as all others who helped to care for Mike. They would also like to thank any friends, family and ward members for all the love and support they have shown to both Mike and his family.
Services for Mike will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at the Sutherlin LDS church. (351 Saint Johns Street, Sutherlin, OR 97479) Any donations for his family will be accepted at any Umpqua Bank under the name of "In Memory of Laurence Mike' Sharp."
