Lelah Louise "Waggoner Lea" Schmidt

September 28, 1930 — February 23, 2012

Lelah Louise (Waggoner) Schmidt was born September 28, 1930 at Millwood, Oregon (Hubbard Creek). She died February 23, 2012 at the age of 81. Lelah lived in the Hubbard Creek area in her youth. She then moved to California and back to Oregon in the Grants Pass area. She married the love of her life, Donald Carl Schmidt, on August 2, 1948. Don preceded Lelah in death in 1983. Her parents were Arthur William Waggoner and Amber Marie Wandell (Kansas). Roger Bell was Lelah's step-father. Her siblings, all deceased, were: Alva Waggoner, wife Melba; Irene Waggoner (Denn, Mills); Clarence Waggoner, wife Elsie; Mervin Waggoner, wife Catherine; Margaret Waggoner, husband Dean Mode; Ray Waggoner , wife Lenora. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Cathy Waggoner and Tom Chase and family. There are a great number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. Lea enjoyed fishing, hunting, snow, traveling and reminiscing about her and her siblings' youth. She adored her grandparents, Timothy and Ama Wandell. She loved all family gatherings in her later years and her friends in Meadows and La Pine areas. Lea strived to be a leader but being the youngest of the family she had a ways to go, but she finally caught up with the rest of them; still following, finally catching up. She fought a hard battle with colon cancer the last three years. Lelah will be missed. There will be no services per Lelah's request. Wilson's Chapel of the Roses is serving the family.
