Les O Stinnett

January 9, 1925 — May 24, 2016

Les Stinnett left us for Heaven on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. He was born January 9, 1925, in Eugene, OR. He died peacefully at his residence at Linus Oakes Retirement Village of Congestive Heart Failure. He was a direct descendent of Josiah Osborn, a survivor of the Whitman Massacre in 1847.

Les graduated from Springfield High School, joined the Navy and served in WWII aboard the destroyer USS Paul Jones from December 1942, until January 1946. He married Yvonne Tranteau in 1949, and they had two children. He attended the University of Oregon and was an avid fan of U of O football.

Les had a long career in Sales working for IBM, Rams Realty in Eugene, and then retired from NFIB in 1990.

All his adult life he loved the Lord, family, hunting, fishing and playing golf. We think he has already found that golf course in heaven.

He was a member of the First Christian Church Roseburg for 23 years where, prior to his stroke in 2004, he served as a deacon.

Les is survived by his wife Grace of Roseburg; son Dan (Elvira)Stinnett of Medford, OR; daughter, Linda (John)McFee of San Diego; step daughters Joanie (Jerry)Leaton of Salem, OR, Bobbi (Carl)Netzel and Diane (Steve)Stice, both of Eugene; and stepson, Skip (Trish)Boone of LaQuinta, CA. Also surviving is the mother of his children, Vonnie Jones of Umpqua, OR; a special cousin Maude Lindseth of Roseburg; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He was to become a great-great-grandfather in December.

A memorial service is planned for at the First Christian Church in Roseburg, on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. Refreshments following.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. Joel Lee and his staff, who took care of Les for 31 years, and the Deaconesses of First Christian Church headed by Betty Davis. Memorials may be made to the General Fund of First Christian Church, 432 SE Kane St., Roseburg 97470.
