Leslie Everett Fleming Jr., age 86, of Oakland, OR, passed away March 27, 2018, in his home from complications of pneumonia. He was born in Sidney, Nebraska, on June 12, 1931, in a hospital. He grew up on a farm that had chickens, cattle and horses.
Leslie was the oldest of ten children; five brothers and four sisters. He lived in many places growing up. He lived in Oakland for 64 years. Before arriving in Oakland, he spent three years in the Marine Corps. He fought in the Korean War while in the Marines.
After serving our country, Leslie worked various jobs. He worked as a logger, but spent most of his career as a mill worker. He worked for Nordic Plywood in Sutherlin and Mt. Mazama Plywood after it bought Nordic Plywood.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jackie Fleming; daughter, Penny Button; and two sons, Leslie and Virgil. He had three grandchildren, Brian, Charlie and April; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by four sisters, Hap, Trink, Ceese and Mick; and one brother, Tom. He was preceded in death by both parents and four brothers.
Leslie was a very much loved father, grandfather and husband.
Services will be held April 5, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the VA Cemetery.
