Loretta “Pete” Sims, age 83, passed away on January 9, 2019. She was born August 2, 1935, to George and Margie Weseman in Umpqua, Oregon. She spent her grade school years in a one-room school in Lower Garden Valley. The family moved to Roseburg in 1947 where she attended school and graduated in 1952. She attended the University of Oregon for one year. She worked at Montgomery Ward and Commercial Title. She met her husband Bill Sims and they were married on August 12, 1956.
Pete and Bill enjoyed many years together playing golf. It was a sport they could enjoy as a family. She played with the ladies league at Roseburg County Club and she volunteered to start the junior golf program in the 1960s. Pete chauffeured the junior golfers all over the state to play the junior “circuit” for many years. She joined Bill in the management of Sims Electric, retiring after 34 years. After retirement, she and Bill toured the U.S. in their motor home and eventually settled in a new park model in an RV park, spending the winters in Indio, California.
Pete was active on Zonta and the Roseburg Country Club, serving on many committees. She had numerous hobbies including tole painting, sewing, teaching, ceramic classes, many years with the Mary Kay Cosmetics organization and caring for her beloved dogs, Baby and Abby.
Pete is survived by her husband, Bill, son Scott, daughter Linda (Robb) Paul, grandchildren Taylor (Michelle) Sims, Colby Sims, Jordan Sims, Derek (Lacey) Rampersaud, Craig (Michelle) Rampersaud. Great-Grandchildren Camille and Amelia Sims.
A Celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 20, 2019, at 1:00 P.M. at the Linus Oaks Chapel, with a reception to follow.
