M. Marie Cook

Passed away, Friday, February 17, 2012. She was born October 30, 1914 in Nunn, Colorado to Jelde and Mamie Meyer. Marie, as she preferred to be called, spent her childhood in Nunn, Colorado and was the only child in her family to graduate from High School. After graduation she worked as a maid in Fort Collins, Colorado. She met her husband, Bruce E. Cook at camp meeting and they were married April 29, 1936. Their early years together were spent farming. Their daughter, Joyce was born June 30, 1941 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They then moved to Carr, Colorado where Bruce went to work for the Railroad. In 1946 they moved to Springfield, Oregon then moved to Dillard, Oregon in 1947. In 1948 Marie went to work at the Dillard Post Office until her retirement in 1972. In 1973 Marie and Bruce moved to their "farm" in Melrose, Oregon where they raised cows and chickens. They were partners in their marriage helping each other with farming, custom hay cutting, canning and building their house. Marie and her family attended the Roseburg Assembly of God church where she was Sunday School Superintendent for a while, as well as the Winston Assembly of God church and The Apostolic Faith Church in Roseburg, Oregon. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Cook; parents, Jelde and Mamie Meyer; sister, Avis Sauer; brothers, Zenas Meyer, Jim Meyer and Jelde Gene "Bud" Meyer; grandson, Roy Dean Patitz; and granddaughter, Mozella (Patitz) Ward. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Patitz and husband, Raymond; granddaughter, Rhonda Purvine and husband, Michael; grandson, Richard Patitz; great- grandson, Aaron Miller and great-granddaughter, Ann Miller. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Irene Olson of Springfield, Oregon, Wanda Cummings of Fort Collins, Colorado, Iris Harms of Greeley, Colorado, Ardyce "Midge" Propp of Grand Junction, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, February 24, 2012 at 10am at Wilson's Chapel of The Roses with Pastor Mike Ruyle of the Melrose Community Church officiating, interment will follow at Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
