Madeline Barrett was born on July 13, 1924 in Shickley, Nebraska, and passed away peacefully at her home on September 4, 2013 in Roseburg, Oregon.
She was married on August 23, 1943 to her loving husband James (Jim) W. Barrett in Geneva, Nebraska. They had their honeymoon in Lincoln, Nebraska where Jim was in the Air Force for 20 years. Mom devoted her life to raising her four wonderful children - Dan, Pat, Deanna, and Paul and being a grandparent and great grandparent brought her immeasurable joy throughout her life. With Jim and the kids in tow they travelled all over the world until Jim was honorably discharged in 1964 at Kingsley Air Force Base in Klamath Falls, Oregon. They then moved to Waldport, Oregon where they lived for 15 years and then to Lakeside, Oregon with fun times and grandkids at the lake. They then moved to Roseburg, Oregon on the river and finally in 1995 to Highlands Vista Ridge, an adult retirement community, where they lived the rest of their lives. Jim, the love of her life, passed away in April of 2007. Mom enjoyed her final years with family and all her friends treating her like the special lady she had been to everyone throughout her life. Mom taught everyone life's simple pleasures that we all will take with us forever. She is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and two sisters. Please join the family of Gadget Barrett for a memorial service at the Roseburg National Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Friday Sept. 13, 2013. Immediately after the service there will be a gathering for those who knew and loved her at Highlands Vista Ridge Clubhouse to celebrate her life. Gadget's family thanks you all for your love and support. - The Barrett Family.
