Mae Rowan, born Sophia Mae Brock, 6/28/1920 to the parents of Albert and Lula Brock of Cassville, MO. grew up and went to school in Cassville, married Dale Harter and then moved to Yakima, WA, where she attended Beauty College and became a beautician. Lived and worked in the West most of her adult life. Owned a beauty shop for a while in Bend, OR, later on she began working as a waitress. She lived in several cities on Oregon, Washington, California and Alaska. In 1992 she finally settled in Roseburg, Oregon, to be close to her family until her death at the age of 96 on April 2, 2017.
She loved to play her fiddle, paint, sew, crochet, make scrubbies, and make things out of plastic cross stitch.
She is preceded in death by her parents, (5) Brothers: Wayne, Austin, Noel, Johnnie, and Eldon Brock; and (2) Sisters: Fredaleen Harrel and Elaine Duncan, and one Daughter: Catherine (Katie) Farley.
She is survived by one Brother: Buford Brock of Tulsa, OK, her son Glen Harter and wife Barbara of Florence, OR, her daughter Cassandra Harter of Roseburg, OR. Her son in-law Earnest Farley of Roseburg, OR; (10) Grandchildren: Kelly Harter, Yolanda Harter, Rusty Harter, Vesta Malloy and husband Mike, Robert Harter, Robert Knapp and wife Julie, Terry Thomas and Husband Steve, Glenda Tucker, Nancy Pyle, Susan Hand and husband John; (15) Great Grandchildren, (8) Great-Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Debra Hall Flury and her staff at Hilltop Adult Foster Care home for their tender loving care of Mae in her final days; to the staff at History Makers for their in home care prior to needing foster care, and Amedisys for their loving Hospice care. Thank you all!
A Memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 27, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., at Grange on Comstock Road in Sutherlin in conjunctions with the Old Time Fiddlers from 12:00 p.m.- 3:00p.m.
