Mamie Oleta Greenwalt (94) of Winston, Oregon passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2024. Born on September 23, 1929, in Heavener, Oklahoma she was the daughter of Luther Bruce and Ida Mae (Milligan) Ridenour. Mamie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Wesley Greenwalt Jr., grandson Raymond Lloyd Greenwalt, and her siblings Elsie, Lucy, Irene, Daisy, Roy, and Susie.
Mamie spent her young life in Oklahoma where she met the love of her life, John. They were married July 6, 1946 and started their family. In the 1950s they moved to Oregon and made it their home.
She was feisty, determined, and strong; a trademark of the generation she grew up in. She never settled for an excuse, but always gave you grace and understanding. She loved in a way that felt like home. Mamie poured herself into her family through food. That was the everlasting Southerner in her. She made you sit down while she took care of you. You’d leave her table with a full belly and a happy heart. Always a lady, she loved getting her nails and hair done.
She stayed for us, but missed her husband more than she could find the words to express. I expect he greeted her at the door, the door of their sweet little home on Hill Street (because that was their heaven), with a smile and a nod. I'm sure she went right in, sat down on her flour can, patted his hand and shared dinner together.
Mamie was everything good that we have known. We loved her as much as we could, but it was no match to her love for us.
She is survived by her children Raymond (Linda) Greenwalt, Judy (Dan) Klauda, June Phillips of Winston, OR, Lucy (Steve) Hampton of Myrtle Creek, OR and Lela (Richard) Bumcrot of Winchester, OR; her brother Rex Lexton Ridenour and sister Bessie Meredith of Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren who lovingly called her Grandma G, and numerous great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held Monday, February 19th with a viewing at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses from 11:00am-12:00pm and a graveside service at 1:00pm at the Myrtle Creek Cemetery.
