MARGARET MELISSA MOORE 100, of Sutherlin, Oregon passed away at her home on Saturday September 12, 2009. She was born the last of six children to Francis Augustus and Florence (Godard) Pepiot on June 17, 1909 in Vida, Oregon. The family moved to a farm east of Sutherlin in the Nonpareil are when Margaret was two. Margaret attended and graduated from the eighth grade at the Nonpareil School. In 1929 she met her future husband, Lynn Thornton Moore, while picking prunes for his family in Green Valley near Oakland, Oregon. On May 14, 1932 they were married in Roseburg, Oregon. They purchased and settled on a homestead east of Nonpareil off Hinkle Creek Road. In 1973 Lynn died suddenly, leaving Margaret a widow after 41 years of marriage. She spent the next 26 years volunteering in her daughter Corrine's first and second grade classrooms at Sutherlin East Primary. After Corrine's retirement, Margaret enjoyed being home, working word puzzles and visiting with family and friends. Her stories of life in the Nonpareil area, "Old Days", entertained them and were featured were featured in the Umpqua Trapper, Winter Hunt Edition 2004. Margaret's sisters Vida McCollum, Eva Richards, Pearl Thornton, and brothers Ray and Amie preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter Corrine Moore and numerous nieces and nephews. We'll all remember how Margaret shared her beautiful smile and twinkle in the eye, with family, friends and caregivers throughout her final days. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday September 18, 2009 at 10:15 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Father Panner Selvam, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Fair Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd, Portland, Oregon 97239-3095.
