Marjorie Ann Lang, nee Moreland was born at home on Twelve Mile Road to George and Minnie Blair (January 15, 1930). Farm life through the Great Depression was difficult, but she persisted. Her mother’s death burdened her with farm, household and school work yet she graduated second in her high school class. (Her brother, Harold George Moreland, sister, Helen Louise Bishop and father, George Simeon Moreland all precede her in death.)
She blazed trails as a young Negro woman at the Social Security Office in Cincinnati, Ohio. (It was a job that she would return to many times over the years.) As a young adult, she made a confession of faith to Christ which guided her throughout her life. She was married Joe Edwin Lang who preceded her in death.
Her legacy persists in her daughter, Karen (Maurice Gunyon); granddaughters Marjorie and Samantha Trueblood; grandson, Simon Joseph Trueblood, III; and two great-grandsons, Jerdson Joseph Gamble and Maximilian Cruz. A special cousin, Marianne West; two special friends, Norman and Shelly, maintained their love over the miles.
She was a fierce advocate for justice and believed in the power of love.
She loved her home on Twelve Mile Road and regaled anyone who would listen about life on the farm. She learned and then taught others many skills, including baking, needlecrafts and the wisdom of the Bible.
Margie was able to die in her new home in Oregon (July 7, 2018), but her real home has been realized as she rests with God. A graveside memorial service is planned later at Moreland Memorial Cemetery, New Richmond, Ohio. Memorial gifts can be made to the Equal Justice Initiative, Montgomery, AL
