Marilyn J Gustafson

June 14, 1946 — October 26, 2018

Marilyn Jeanne Gustafson (Jeanne) was born the eldest of five children on June 14, 1946, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Luella and Marion Gregg. She passed away October 26, 2018, at the age of 72, after a short but valiant battle with ALS. At her passing, she was surrounded by family members who love her so much.

Jeanne grew up primarily in Southern California, graduating from Artesia High School. She married Eric B. Gustafson on October 14, 1967. They had two boys, Rick and Eric. When her boys were younger, she was a Sunday school teacher, homemaker and owned a monogramming business and a fabric store in Sutherlin. After her boys were grown, she held a number of jobs working primarily in customer service. Eric and Jeanne moved to Roseburg, Oregon, in 1974, and after several moves, returned to Roseburg for retirement in 2010.

Jeanne loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a wonderful example of a loving servant to her family, friends and all who knew her. We are blessed to have shared life with her. She was a member of Family Church in Sutherlin and served in the children’s ministry there. Jeanne loved and excelled in all kinds of crafts, gardening, canning, and generously shared the fruits of her labor with others. She was also an avid Elvis fan.

Jeanne was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend, and she will be missed greatly. Our hearts are heavy, but we know she is no longer suffering, and she is celebrating with Jesus.

Jeanne is survived by her husband of 51 years, Eric; her sons Rick and Eric (Marcy); grandchildren, Tosha, Tyler, and Cody; mother, Luella Jones; sisters, Cheryl, Debbie, and Brenda; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her father, Marion and brother, Ronnie.

Jeanne’s family would like to thank all those who provided care during her illness, particularly Corina from Amedysis, and to those who have offered their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held Monday, October 29, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Family Church in Sutherlin with Pastor Paul Glazner officiating. A reception will follow. Jeanne will be interred at the Roseburg National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Family Church Children’s Ministry, the ALS Association, or Susan G. Komen (breast cancer research).

The following Scripture held special meaning to Jeanne:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” — John 14:1-4
