MARSHALL HERBERT SHERWIN died on November 1, 2013. He was born February 26, 1920, to Ray and Dorothy Sherwin in Laramie, Wyoming. He attended schools in Laramie and Eugene, Oregon, received his bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon, and received his Master's degree from Reed College, an accomplishment of which he was inordinately proud. He began his teaching career in Joseph, Oregon. He married Adelle Buchanan in 1950. They traveled widely in Europe, South America, China, Mexico and Canada. He is survived by his children Michael Sherwin, Marian Parsons and AliceAnn Eberman, and two grandsons, Alex Parsons and Sam Parsons. His professional career was mainly as a teacher at Douglas High School and Roseburg High School where he served as chair of the Social Studies department. His volunteer work included Crater Lake National Park, Battered Persons Advocacy, RSVP, Meals on Wheels, Umpqua Valley Arts Center, Douglas County Senior Services, Umpqua Actors Community Theater and Dougco Credit Union. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Hospice.
