Mary Alice Fair, 105, of Albany, Oregon died on April 24th in the compassionate care of Samaritan Evergreen Hospice with family and friends by her side.
Mary was born in Falkton, South Dakota January 11th, 1912. She was married to Claude Walgamuth from 1933 until his death in 1941. The couple farmed in South Dakota where their daughter Joan was born. In 1936 the devastation of the dust bowl and depression prompted the family and many relatives to migrate to Tenmile, Oregon near Roseburg to search for work. After Claude's death, Mary worked at Cohen Lumber Yard until she married Carl Fair in 1946. They raised their family, including sons Carl E. and Steven in a home on the bank of the Umpqua River in Roseburg, Oregon. From 1956 until retirement, Mary was a bookkeeper at Montgomery Ward.
Mary was also preceded in death by husband Carl in 1999, son, Steven Fair and her great grandson, Kevin Fidge. She is survived by her children Joan Murdoch, Carl E. Fair, his wife J.D., 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and the countless people who met her and called her "Gram".
