Mary Elizabeth Flynn was born to Vincent and Sylvia Flynn (Staffa) on December 15, 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas. Mary was the only daughter of five brothers: Vincent JR, Daniel, Richard, Patrick, and Timothy.
Mary graduated from court reporting school and went on to teach court reporting in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was also an owner of her own landscaping and insulation business. After many years in South Dakota, she moved back to Fort Worth to look after her mother once her father passed away.
Over the years while living in Fort Worth, Mary worked for United Fidelity Life Insurance, Transport Life Insurance Company, USI-Administrators, and finally AM-WINS Group insurance until 2013 when Mary was diagnosed with ALS-Lou Gehrig's disease. She then moved to Oregon with her daughter, Gillian, to be care for by her long-time friend, Lisa Platt, until her death on April 3, 2017.
Mary enjoyed camping, boating, volleyball, and scrapbooking. She loved the ocean, particularly the Pacific Ocean which she visited frequently once she moved to Oregon. But her greatest achievement was being a mom to Gillian. She loved every minute of watching her little girl grow up.
Mary is proceeded in death by her father, Vincent, three brothers: Vincent, Jr. Patrick (Pat) and Richard (Ricky) all of Fort Worth. Surviving family-daughter Gillian S. Flynn-Oregon, Mother Sylvia Flynn(Staffa), Fort Worth, Texas, brothers Daniel Flynn, Fort Worth, Texas, Timothy and his wife Sandra Flynn (Souther), Fort Worth, Texas and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews all over Texas.
We would like to thank Dr. Chakaborty and the staff at the Pulmonary Clinic, Dr. Boggs, Patricia Mullen-AIM Therapy, Tim Stephanos and Megan Masiel of Mercy Hospice and Mary Rebar of the ALS Association. Also, her care companions, Charlene Van Cleave, Katie Follmar, Theresa Richardson, Brianne Phipps, and Maren Jetmore.
There will be a Celebration of Life Mass on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 am at the Catherine McAuley Chapel at Mercy Medical Center.
Mary had an infectious smile that would light up a room. She maintained her smile even during her courageous battle with ALS. Thank you, Mary, for being my best friend for over 35 years. It's been a journey I will forever cherish and Gillian will always have you, her special Angel, to guard over her.
