Mary Elizabeth Thomas, age 92, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on Sunday December 29, 2013 of natural causes. She was born on August 16, 1921 to John H. and Minnie (Stevens) Goodman in Malvern, Iowa. Mary graduated in 1940 from Tabor High School in Iowa and married William H. Thomas, Sr. They lived in Los Angeles for 40 years before moving to Roseburg 32 years ago. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, watching baseball or football, family gatherings and teaching Sunday School. Mary was an active member of F.I.S.H., the American Legion, VFW, VA Hospital volunteer service, Umpqua Rehab Volunteer, and Senior Companion Program. She received the VA Hospital Volunteer Service award for her many efforts.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter Eloise, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Surviving is her son William H Thomas, Jr (Paula) and daughters; Patrecia Thomas and Rose Evans (Brian). Also surviving is her sister Jo Gann of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a brother; Charles "Chuck" of Whittier California and grand children; LeiAnne Thomas, Carrie Thomas, William Thomas III, Wendy Thomas, Steve Thomas, Christina Green, Clifford Thomas, and Alexa Evans, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11 AM at the Church on the Rise, with private family interment at Eagle Point National Cemetery with her husband. Memorials may be made to Umpqua Valley Rehab, 525 Umpqua St, Roseburg.
