Dr. Max Edmund Post of Roseburg peacefully went home to Jesus on Thursday, June 23rd with all of his children and family close by his side. Max was born on May 5, 1926 in Vancouver, BC to George E. Post and Carrie Wilson Kuck. He lived in The Dalles, Portland, and Hermiston and also spent time with his Aunt and Uncle in Thornton, WA. Among the many jobs he held as a teenager, he worked for Stadelman Fruit Company in The Dalles and drove truck for Eastern Oregon and Washington Farmers.
Max graduated from The Dalles High School in 1944 and went on to college at Oregon State University. There he became a true Beaver Fan and remained an avid fan his entire life. He graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove in 1950 after completing his Doctorate of Optometry degree.
Max married Muriel Elaine Reitan of Hood River on December 3, 1952 in Vancouver, WA. He spent his professional life as a hometown eye doctor in Sutherlin for over 45 years.
Max and Muriel had 4 children and were married for over 31 years. He was active in both the local Lions Club and the Jaycees. Max had a general love of the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and camping. The family's favorite camping place was Diamond Lake. He also enjoyed annual hunting trips to Hart Mountain and camping and fishing trips to the Frazier River near Hope, BC, with his friends. In his later years, one of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They truly brightened his life.
Max is survived by his 4 children: Mark (Bobbie) Post of Eagle, ID, Colleen (Scott) Loucks of Edmonds, WA., Patty (Tim) Gray of Elkton, OR. and Mike (Trina) Post of Coos Bay, OR., 13 grandchildren: Ryan (Emily) Post, Alex Post, Jaynie Post, Jonathan Loucks, Christine Loucks, Justin (Robyn Weber) Gray, Cody (Sarah) Gray, Mindy (Marcus Melendrez) Gray, Michael (Sarah) Post, Jr., Nick (Ashley Seets) Post, Tarynne (Jimmy) Lay, Kaycee Connelly and Alicia Post and 6 great grandchildren.
Max was laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery at a private family graveside service officiated by his son, Pastor Mark Post, on June 28th. A celebration of his life will be held later this summer.
