Melvin "Jack" Ellsworth Potterf
Melvin "Jack" Ellsworth Potterf passed away September 30, 2017 in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, one day short of his 93rd birthday. He had been ill for several months prior to his death.
"Jack" was born and raised in his young years on Roy, Mt. on October 1, 1924 to Edward and Marie Potterf. They moved their family to the west coast settling in Kelso, WA operating a small family dairy. In the 1940s and 1950s they moved to the Portland area. "Jack" was inducted in the Army in 1943, and honorably discharged in 1946. In the early 1950s the Potterf families moved to the Coos, Bay area and "Jack" worked for Weyerhaeuser and then for the City of Bandon.
"Jack" is survived by his wife Adelma of Myrtle Creek (47yrs in Nov,); son Gary of Independence, OR; Adelma's children Thor Christensen(Mary Ann), Bandon, OR; Cindy Kiser (Clarence), Myrtle Creek, OR; Theresa Wright (Darren), Roseburg, OR; Sister: Viola Oldham, Sutherlin, OR; Sister-in-law: Dang Potterf, Salem,OR; Nieces: Donna Smith, Mill City, OR; Dixie Groll (Phil) TX; Doneen Wilson, WA; Doreen du Cellie Muller, CA; Sharon Myer (Deon), Sutherlin, OR; Cathy Siegrist (Mark), Coos Bay, OR; Susan Duncan (Carl), Dever, OR; Bobby Potterf, Salem, OR; Tom Potterf, AZ; Darin Potterf, OK. Several great nieces and nephews will also miss him.
"Jack" was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Edmund, Kenneth, and Donald; and nephew Dennis Oldham.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Roseburg National Cemetery.
