With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Michael "Mike" David Sullivan on February 15, 2024, at the age of 69. Mike, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him.
Born on July 27, 1954, to David and Joann O'Sullivan in Klamath Falls, Oregon, Mike's upbringing took him to various places, including Rhode Island, Minnesota, Corvallis, Eugene, and Roseburg, Oregon. He graduated from Roseburg High School in 1972, then began his career working in the timber industry (the woods), working his way up to becoming a timber faller. In Roseburg, he met the love of his life, Louise Payne. They exchanged vows on December 21, 1974, and were blessed with two children, Francine and Michael Jr.
Mike and Louise then went on to form their own small logging company. Mike's life was a testament to resilience. Despite a car accident in February of 1979 that left him paralyzed at 24, he demonstrated remarkable strength, going on to establish several successful ventures. For the past four decades, Mike, alongside his wife and son, owned and operated Sullivan & Company Inc. an excavation company executing projects for Pacific Power, the U.S Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Wildland Firefighting, and individual property owners.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mike found joy in simple pleasures. Whether firing up the barbecue surrounded by loved ones, immersing himself in nature, or sharing in the excitement of football season, he embraced life wholeheartedly. Mike, an avid reader, fisherman, and hunter, cherished most moments spent with his granddaughter, Amelia.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Danny, Mike leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. He is survived by his devoted wife, Louise; daughter, Francine Hatton; son, Michael Jr.; granddaughter, Amelia Hatton; and son-in-law, Philip Hatton; and his three brothers, Pat, Tim, and Jim.
To honor Mike's memory, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 16, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, located at 2110 SW Frear Street in Roseburg, Oregon. Family and friends are invited to join in commemorating Mike's remarkable life. Guests are encouraged to bring a favorite dish to share, wear vibrant spring colors, and reminisce about the cherished moments spent with Mike.
In this time of loss, may we find solace in the memories we shared and the profound impact Mike had on each of the lives he touched.
“Through all the peaks and valleys, We had something great, We had Love.”
