Mildred Kanewske (Jones) Kanewske

May 21, 1924 — March 13, 2015

Mrs. Mildred "Millie" K. Kanewske, 90, of Roseburg passed away on March 13, 2015. She was born on May 21, 1924 to Leonard Sidney Jones and Margaret Eleanor Harris Jones Woodruff in Slaton, Texas. Mildred attended Turlock High School and San Francisco State University graduating in 1968 with a BA. She was employed by the San Mateo Unified School District for 30 years. Her hobbies and interests included handmade paper cards, music, plays, creative writing, Susie, her rescued dog, and enjoying fine wines. In 1941 Mildred was a representative to Girl's and Boy's State in California. She also was a speaker at Stanislaus Co. Public Speaking contest. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Russell L. Kanewske Sr. in 2000, along with her parents. She is survived by her son, Patrick T. Walters and his wife, Nancy Giles Walters of Augusta, Georgia, a step son, Russell L. Kanewske Jr. of Eugene, OR, a step daughter, Beverly J. Kanewske of Salem, OR; a sister; Ann Dutra of Roseburg and a brother and sister in law, Ed and Linda Bettencourt of Antioch, California. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Thomas A. Walters of Pikesville, NC. and Laura A. Walters of Sarasota, FL. Along with a great grandson Peyton A. Walters of Pikesville, NC. Friends, George Brausam of Roseburg, OR and Betty Lamoree.
A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 1-4 pm at Linus Oaks.
