Was born July 20, 1919, in Montrose, KS, the youngest daughter of Emma (Wagner) and David Small. At age of one year, they moved to Superior, NB, where she graduated from High School and then attended business School in Kansas City, KS. She worked for Armour & Co. for a number of years before moving to Oregon, where she met and married George West.
She worked with George for many years in Umpqua Valley Hardware & Appliance as well as at West's Furniture. They were partners in business and recreation. They enjoyed motor home travel, boating, fishing and golf.
Later Mildred traveled on tours and cruises to many different places. Reading was her relaxation.
Mildred was a former Charter member of Altrusa, Business & Professional Women, and many other organizations. She volunteered at Mercy Medical Hospital for 10 years.
She is survived by niece, Delores Massy, of Tacoma, WA; daughter in-law, Karen West, of Vancouver, WA; granddaughter, Danette (Bill) Robbins of Windsor, CA; granddaughter in-law, Gigi Herana of San Jose, CA; grand son, Matt (Rita) West, of New Hope, PA; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters; one nephew; her husband, George; sons, Robert and Richard; daughter in-law Meridith; and grandson, Kirk.
Those who wish may pay their respects on Friday, February 20, 2015, from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.
Private interment will be held within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
