Oliver Blix

January 12, 1945 — May 4, 2018

Oliver Walter Blix was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 12, 1945, and was promoted to Glory on May 4, 2018, as he slipped into the arms of Jesus from his home in Roseburg.

He was drafted into the US Army in May, 1964, and served the duration of his military service in Germany. Oliver worked for Roseburg Forest Products for 43 years and, after retirement, became a school bus driver for eight years. A highlight of that time was the years he spent driving the “Ollie Bus”, transporting specially-challenged children. He also spent four summers as a security guard at Diamond Lake.Ollie loved the Lord, Loraine and his family in that order. He was known for his honesty and integrity and never found fault in others. He was compassionate and fun-loving and particularly loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Other special interests were football (go 49ers!), fishing, hunting, traveling, Fox News and chocolate pudding.

Oliver will be held in loving memory by his wife of over 50 years, Loraine; four children: Deena (Gerald) Hand, Shane (Suzie), Steven (Cheri) and Seth Blix; seven grandchildren: Michael, Steven and Madeline Hand, Jade Ann, Kaleb, Hunter and Stephanie Blix; one brother, Leonard (Barbara) and one sister, Ellen (Herb) Sweeney; and 11 nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind special friends Donnie Wilson and Gary Howington and a host of others too numerous to name. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Alice Blix .A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the Roseburg Labor Temple, 742 SE Roberts in Roseburg, officiated by his brother, Leonard. Oliver will be laid to rest at Roseburg National Cemetery, with full military honors.
