Duane was born in Portland, Oregon, to Orval Richard and Bessie Rae Caldwell on October 7, 1930. He was the youngest of three children. Duane was always full of life and brought excitement to all as he was growing up. He was not afraid of a challenge and would jump in with both feet to learn life's lessons. Duane married his high school sweetheart, Floy Louise (Peggy) Gano on September 16, 1950 in Portland Oregon. Together they had 3 children, Faith, Becky and Bruce. Duane and his family moved to Roseburg, Oregon, in 1960 to pursue his career as an Allstate agent. Duane was a well respected member of the community. He retired at the age of 60 and enjoyed traveling for many years. Duane and Peggy took care of each other until Peggy died in February of a long progressive disease. Duane died of a short but aggressive battle with cancer that was already untreatable upon diagnosis. He loved his family, his golf, his home on Newton Creek Road and his recently found relationship with the Lord, which carried him through and brought him peace throughout these difficult times. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy: his mother, Bessie; father, Orval; and his older brother, John. He is survived by his older sister, Jean Phillips of Bend; his children: Faith (Ray) Harsh and family of Arizona; Becky (Skip) and family of Roseburg; Bruce (Sherri) and family of Roseburg; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of Duane's life at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Linus Oakes Retirement Village.
