PHYLLIS AMELIA BRAZIL BLACK, our loving mother entered peacefully into the hands of our Lord on November 17, 2011. Phyllis was born July 18, 1931 to Manuel and Mary Brazil in Ferndale, California. She spent her entire childhood in Humboldt County where she then married Albert Freitas and raised four children: Bonnie Reed (Robert), Sonja Freitas, Wayne Freitas and Steve Freitas. In the early sixties, Phyllis moved to Sutherlin, Oregon where she spent the remainder of her life. In Sutherlin she married Vondell Black and raised three step-children: Rick Black (Janie), Bonnie Bilderback, and Rocky Black (Judi). Phyllis had nine grandchildren: Andrea, Anna, Jim, Jennifer, Natasha, Alishia, Shay, Jessie and Andy; ten great grandchildren as well as numerous special nieces and nephews. She had a special life-long friend, Barbara Griffith who became extended family. Barbara's children Keith, Craig, Katrina and Karah all regarded Phyllis as their grandmother. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands and her son Wayne. Phyllis loved to keep busy with projects and crafts such as ceramics, painting and crocheting. She was a wonderful homemaker and always provided a comfortable home for her family. For many years, she gathered family and friends into her home for holiday dinners. The more the merrier. Phyllis was a kind and gentle soul who loved her family immensely and that love was returned full measure. She will be dearly missed by all. We would like to thank all the family and friend who expressed care and concern for our mother during her short illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11:00 am at Sutherlin Chapel of the Roses. Pastor Paul Glazner will officiate. Private interment will be held within the grounds of Valley View Cemetery.
